Intern Analyzes Heating and Solar Energy in Utqiaġvik
Matt Moses is working on two projects this summer in collaboration with the in Utqiaġvik, Alaska.
As part of his , Moses will program the project’s data extraction and use data analysis tools to view sensor information from TNHA’s heating control system. The proprietary software that comes with the RESOL package offers limited data analysis and control capabilities and the tool will expand on the existing infrastructure.
Moses’s second project is an energy study on a solar-thermal domestic hot-water system that has been installed on several houses monitored by TNHA.
Moses, a mechanical engineering and mathematics student at UAA, is originally from
Oregon. He graduated from Colorado State University in 2011 with a bachelor’s in biomedical
sciences and worked for Oregon Health Science University for two years before enlisting
in the U.S. Army in 2013.
While serving in the Army, he earned the coveted Ranger Tab, the Senior Parachutists
Badge, and graduated from the Norwegian School of Winter Warfare. He left the Army
in 2018 to resume school and enrolled at UAA.
When he’s is not studying, Moses works for UAA as a part-time tutor. He enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons with his wife Courtney, distance running, lifting weights, throwing the ball for their dogs Garrus and Shepard, shoveling his horse’s poop out of her stall and playing the drums.
