ACEP In the Community of Galena

After major rebuilding efforts this summer as a result of severe spring flooding, this week residents of Galena are welcoming a small group of technical energy experts, including ACEP's Marc Mueller-Stoffels, to help them assess their infrastructure and make decisions on how to move forward with major energy projects.  The goal is to have all of the technical and agency experts in once place at one time to help the community move forward in their planning and align their vision with clear and attainable objectives for the next 18 months.  The trip is being coordinated by the Alaska Energy Authority.

An invitation letter from the community lines out the opportunity for this group:

“While phase I of our post flood world was fraught with challenges and frustrations, ultimately, a lot of progress has been made.  Most folks are back in their homes, or at least in Galena, and our infrastructure is functioning.  Through the multitude of meetings and discussions this summer we have learned that there are some real opportunities on the horizon for long term recovery.  Infrastructure and power systems have been identified as one area where repairs occurring today as a result of the flood, can be leveraged to improve our long term situation.  As a community we have actively been planning power and heat projects that improve our sustainability and affordability into the future.  If nothing else the flood has accelerated the pace of change for us.â€
